1. BOOM BAMBINO PROMOTIONS

So, not only is the name wonderfully alliterative, but one of the masterminds behind Boom Bambino Promotions is the ridiculously talented Andy, who was the vocalist in The Red Route. (If you’ve never heard of them, see here. They are currently on a long-ish hiatus but will one day make music again, otherwise they’ll have to deal with me.)

Anyway, on Tuesday the 30th of October, Boom Bambino are putting on their first event, a rather fantastic Indie Spooktacular for Halloween. The line up looks amazing, and it’s at a great venue. If I wasn’t stuck in Oxford with a 9am tute the following morning, I’d be there front and center. So YOU will just have to go in my place.

Lots of love and overenthusiastic high fives.

  2. Gaoler’s Daughter.

This evening I attended an event where champagne was flowing and the canapés were far too foreign looking and dainty to be of any consequence. As a result, I am writing this post with a bit less blood in my alcohol stream than usual. I hope that my words will be coherent and meaningful nonetheless.

For the past few days I’ve been listening to a band I’ve stalked and loved pretty much since its infancy, Gaoler’s Daughter.*

*Let’s get one thing clear right now. It’s pronounced like so:

    dʒeɪlə(r)  (JAY-LER)

Gaoler’s is a kind of phoenix which rose from the ashes of several other wonderful bands, most notably LETTERS FROM LONDON. (I was gonna marry the drummer when I grew up.) The band makes music that to me is very London. It’s smoky and loud and I see all kinds of colours when I listen to their music. Their music seems to have gone on a journey around the world, starting in the Orient and ending up back in London; maybe it is just me who thinks that, or perhaps it’s all that champagne. Either way, have a listen to some older stuff like Angry Eyes and Shark in a Sink, then Jumbo Jet, Nine Pieces of Silk, St Peter, How Do You Know and finally When We Were Young. Really I just want you to listen to the majority of, if not all their songs, but here’s why. You travel along, a bit like the Ancient Mariner, go to some crazy lands, come face to face with death and live to tell the tale.

You’ll also dance a crazy amount. That’s because of Ben, the drummer who comes up with these crazy good beats that propel you to the dance floor or whatever space you have available. In my case, this evening that meant my room at uni. I was slightly too enthusiastic frollicking about to When We Were Young and I now have a stubbed and very bloodied toe. Forced into a chair, I decided to donate some money to GD which goes towards the recording of their album. A tenner gets you a signed copy, bargain! Of course I’d encourage you to rather go for a pony or even a monkey if you’re in a good mood.

I’m off to finish off some French translations. I’m sure I’ll return someday soon to complete this/write part two and actually tell you what the band sounds like. For now, follow the white rabbit….

A little Led Zep to end the night ;D

…Hey, hey, mama, said the way you move
Gonna make you sweat, gonna make you groove.
Oh, oh, child, said the way you swing
Gonna make you burn, gonna make you sting.
Hey, hey, baby, when you walk that way
Watch your honey drip, I can’t keep away…
